Gloucestershire Long barrows


Gloucestershire has many ancient sites many of these sites are known as long barrows(Tumulis) and round barrows.   These barrows are the works of prehistoric man and can be found scattered across the county.  Other similar sites include stone circles and dwellings.

Hetty Peglers Tump(Uley Long barrow)

Hetty Peglers tump is a Neolithic long barrow dating to around 5.000 BC.  Its a unique barrow as it has remained intact since.  Inside the barrow you can see 2 side chambers and a main passage.  Also there are some features on the walls of the chamber grooves suggesting these may have been used as a navigation purpose.  View this collection of photos below.
